Great Southern Bowl - Hogs vs Chiefs

Great Southern Bowl - : Hogs Vs Chiefs

After a thrilling finish to the semifinal, would the Chiefs be able to ride that momentum into the Great Southern Bowl against a rested, more physical Razorback side? The answer, a resounding no.

Adelaide University controlled the contest (in all three phases) from start to finish, after forcing an early punt the Hogs drove the field behind Buckskin and Yun, before a Welbourn to Dawson 30-yard connection opened the scoring.

A swarming Adelaide University defense forced a strip sack fumble (Caputo) deep in Chief territory, giving the Hogs fantastic field position, they responded immediately with a second Welbourn to Dawson connection. Flag down! The score nullified (1st) by illegal procedure, the Hogs went back to work. Scoring the following play on an Olsson reverse.

The Chiefs responded, driving the field thanks to a 60+ yard pass play, before quickly converting a Caputo to Leary connection into 6 points.

Physical in response, the Hogs answered immediately with a huge Berrington kick return (and crushing Papas block), resulting again in favorable field position. A physical drive followed, as Adelaide ran the ball six consecutive times, resulting in a Welbourn rushing TD. Giving the Hogs a 21-6 advantage at the major break.

Adelaide University received the ball to open the second half, penalties resulting in an early 3rd and 20. Welbourn connected with Dawson for 12 yards, before connecting with Berrington on a key fourth down conversion, keeping the drive alive. Two plays later, a 26 yard Welbourn to Pedler connection for the TD, giving the Hogs a 22-point advantage.

After a South City 3 and out, the Hogs again had the ball and excellent field position behind a strong Yun running effort. Facing 4th and 8, Adelaide University handed Olsson the ball for a 24-yard TD. Flag down! The score nullified (2nd) by illegal procedure, the hogs went back to work again. Running the same play, Olsson again raced 34 yards for the TD. Flag down! The score nullified (3rd) by illegal procedure! A turnover on downs giving the ball back to South City. The remainder of the 3rd quarter was a flag filled scrappy affair, with neither team driving into opponent territory.

Early in the fourth Adelaide University iced the game with a Welbourn to Crouch TD strike. The Chiefs responding in garbage time with a Leary rushing TD.

Olsson responded immediately with a kick return for TD… Flag down! His 3rd TD nullified.

The Hogs player numbers, physical rushing attack, swarming defense and opportunistic passing game proving too much to handle, handing Adelaide University the 35-12 (four-peat) victory.

Olsson was the game MVP, deservedly so, with a rushing TD, a INT and 3 nullified additional TD’s.

Hogs 35 – 12 Chiefs
