Round 5 - Spartans vs Oilers

The Spartan's travelled to Victoria Park for their Round 5 clash eager to make amends for a slow start to their season and they did just that with a victory against a fired up Southern District Oiler's 18 – 0.

Sunny conditions made for a perfect day for football and the Spartan's took full advantage scoring early on with an impressive drive down the field. Aaron Nassaris scoring the touchdown. The score was 6 – 0 after failing on the 2 pt conversion.

After the initial score the remainder of the first half was dominated by the defense of both teams with the Spartan's unable to capitalise on any more chances and the Oiler's unable to score.

The second half saw an invigorated Spartan' team who found another gear and Aaron Nassaris added another touchdown and heading into the last break the Spartan's were up 12-0.

The final quarter was again a defensive battle but the Spartan's managed to score again with a touchdown to Damian Volar.

The game finished with the Spartan's completing a shutout.

MVP’s for the game were Jake Lamming on offense. Jake imposed himself throughout the game and had a massive impact after switching to centre at halftime.

Simon Forby on defense, Simon used his speed and football IQ throughout the game to keep the wide receivers of the Oilers quiet.

A shout out to dual offensive/defensive MVP Damian Volar who worked all day applying pressure from defensive tackle and making great runs from fullback.

The Spartan's are looking forward to their next clach againt the Eagle's.
